The enchanting landscapes of Vancouver Island provided a perfect backdrop for a romantic engagement photo session, capturing the unique beauty of Lupin Falls, Myra Falls, and Ralph River Campground. Each location brought its distinct charm, creating an unforgettable experience that was as scenic as it was sentimental.
Meticulous planning was crucial to achieving the ideal lighting conditions that would best showcase the couple’s affection. I utilized Google Maps extensively to orchestrate the session’s logistics. The couple had initially proposed Myra Falls, voicing concerns about the drive, but this turned out to be a splendid opportunity for me to immerse myself in an audiobook and discover these breathtaking spots, despite living here for 28 years.
Lupin Falls: A Serene Beginning
Our session commenced at the tranquil Lupin Falls, nestled within Strathcona Provincial Park. Although the walk to this secluded waterfall was expected to be brief, we often paused to capture the verdant beauty of the forest and the perfect interplay of light and shadows, which added a lush, green vibrancy to our early shots.
Myra Falls: Dramatic Backdrops
We then journeyed to the imposing Myra Falls, where the landscape undergoes a dramatic transformation. The vigorous falls and rugged surroundings provided a majestic setting. The walk back posed a bit of a challenge due to my own need for more cardio (note to self: work on increasing my cardio), yet the striking views provided ample compensation. Skillfully avoiding bystanders and swimmers, we managed to position the couple against a backdrop of cascading water and jagged rocks, adding a dynamic and powerful element to their gallery.
Ralph River Campground: Sunset and Sweet Moments
The photo shoot reached its final destination at Ralph River Campground, situated along the serene banks of Ralph River.
The timing of this session was aligned with the golden hour, enveloping the couple in a flattering, soft, warm light that perfectly captured their intimate exchanges. The river’s gentle flow and the surrounding natural elements like twisted driftwood, tall grasses, and smooth stones, enhanced by the stunning mountain scenery, provided a tranquil soundtrack and a picturesque setting for capturing the couple’s deep connection.
This engagement session at Buttle Lake was a journey through some of Vancouver Island’s most striking natural scenes. From the serene allure of Lupin Falls to the grandeur of Myra Falls and the peaceful riverside at Ralph River Campground, each location contributed a unique flavor to the shoot. The couple’s love was magnified against these splendid backdrops, resulting in a portfolio of images that they will cherish for a lifetime. For those planning an engagement session, this tour of Vancouver Island’s natural wonders offers a blueprint for capturing love in its most genuine and picturesque form.
