Tyra and Keith’s wedding at 40 Knots Winery in the Comox Valley was filled with quiet emotion, meaningful traditions, and the kind of natural beauty that makes Vancouver Island weddings feel timeless. Surrounded by vineyards and rolling farmland, their celebration blended heartfelt family moments with the relaxed atmosphere that defines so many West Coast weddings.
One of the most powerful details of the day was something deeply personal. Tyra chose to wear her late mother’s wedding dress, carrying a piece of her mother’s memory into the celebration. It added a quiet layer of meaning to every part of the day and was felt in the emotion shared by family and friends.

Located just outside Comox, 40 Knots Winery in the Comox Valley is a unique wedding venue on Vancouver Island. The property is surrounded by rows of vines, open farmland, and views of the Beaufort Mountains in the distance. It offers couples a setting that feels both elegant and grounded in the landscape of the island.
The ceremony space sits beside the vineyard, creating a beautiful backdrop of greenery and natural textures. Guests are surrounded by vines and open sky while the ceremony unfolds, giving the entire experience a relaxed but refined atmosphere.
From a photography perspective, 40 Knots Winery offers incredible light throughout the day. The open vineyard allows soft afternoon sun to wrap around the ceremony space, while the rows of vines create depth and structure for portraits later in the day.
The day began at Crown Isle Golf Resort where Tyra and her bridesmaids spent the morning getting ready. Starting the day in a calm and comfortable space allowed everyone to settle into the rhythm of the celebration.
The early hours of a wedding day often hold some of the most intimate moments. Laughter with friends, quiet anticipation, and the small details that begin to bring everything together.
Tyra also shared a first look with her father and brother before heading to the ceremony. These private moments often become some of the most meaningful memories of the day. Seeing their reaction as they saw she was wearing her mother’s wedding dress was incredibly emotional.
Those are the kinds of moments that documentary wedding photography is built to preserve.

Guests gathered inside for the ceremony as cow bells rang out to signal the start of the celebration. The sound echoed and everyone took their seats and waited for Tyra to walk down the aisle.
One seat remained reserved in the front row, marked in honour of Tyra’s mother. It was a quiet but powerful reminder that even though she could not physically be there, she was still deeply present in the day.
As Tyra walked toward Keith, the emotion on both their faces was unmistakable. That first moment when a couple sees each other at the aisle is always powerful, especially when they have chosen not to do a first look earlier in the day.
Their ceremony included the exchange of rings, the signing of documents, and their first kiss as a married couple surrounded by family and friends.

After the ceremony, family gathered among the vineyard rows for formal photographs. With around 80 to 100 guests attending the celebration, this portion of the day became an opportunity for both families to come together and celebrate the beginning of Tyra and Keith’s marriage.
Tyra’s grandmother was also a special part of the family portraits, making sure that multiple generations were represented in the photographs.
Family photographs often carry even more meaning when they are taken in places that reflect the landscape of the wedding day. The vineyard rows at 40 Knots provided a natural setting that felt connected to the entire celebration.
While guests enjoyed drinks and snacks during cocktail hour, Tyra and Keith stepped away for their portraits among the vines.
This is one of the most relaxed and enjoyable parts of the wedding day for many couples. The ceremony is complete, the nerves have settled, and the excitement of the reception is still ahead.
Walking through the vineyard together allowed Tyra and Keith to slow down for a few minutes and take in the reality of the day they had just experienced.
After spending time in the vineyard, we made a quick trip to a place that holds real meaning in Keith’s life. His workplace on a local dairy farm. It might not be a traditional portrait location, but that is exactly what made it so memorable.
These portraits carried a different energy than the vineyard images. The setting was rougher, more textured, and deeply personal. Old wooden barns and weathered fencing created beautiful rustic backdrops while the open farmland stretched out behind them.
From a photography perspective, farms often offer incredible visual depth. Weathered wood, open sky, and layered landscapes create a cinematic environment that feels both grounded and expansive.
For Tyra and Keith, it was not about choosing the most polished location. It was about choosing a place that represented their life together.
Before returning to the reception, we made one more stop that felt just as meaningful. Their home.
Their cats greeted us immediately, curious about the excitement of the day and the unfamiliar outfits. Including pets in wedding portraits always adds a layer of personality that cannot be replicated anywhere else.
Inside their property, rustic barns and open farmland created the perfect setting for a few more quiet portraits. With the soft light settling across the fields, the atmosphere felt calm and reflective after the energy of the ceremony.
These moments at home allowed Tyra and Keith to step away from the celebration for a few minutes and simply enjoy being together as newlyweds.

Later in the afternoon guests gathered for the reception, beginning with Tyra and Keith’s grand entrance.
The evening continued with heartfelt speeches, laughter, and the warm energy that comes when families from two different lives come together to celebrate one shared future.
As the evening progressed, Tyra and Keith shared their first dance together before moving into the father daughter and mother son dances. These moments often bring the entire room into a shared emotional space as parents and children reflect on the journey that led to this day.
Dancing soon followed as the celebration shifted into a lively and joyful evening.
