Candid and Heartfelt Comox Wedding at Little River Road

Not every wedding needs to be high pressure, high production, or high maintenance. Some of the most powerful love stories unfold in spaces that feel familiar. On family land, under a canopy of coastal trees, and surrounded by the people and pups who know you best. That is exactly what made Alex and Darin’s Comox Valley wedding so unforgettable.
Their wedding took place on a private family property on Little River Road in Comox BC, and from the moment I pulled up the gravel driveway, I knew it was going to be a day rooted in feeling, not fuss.

Getting Ready in the Carriage House

The girls got ready in the carriage house with windows open, music playing, and energy that was calm but full of excitement. Alex had just returned from her hair appointment when I arrived, and she was glowing in that barely trying kind of way. She and her bridesmaids shared inside jokes, and helped each other with final touches as makeup wrapped up and details started coming together.

Meanwhile, Darin and the guys were getting ready nearby, tying ties and making sure boutonnieres were pinned straight. There may or may not have been a moment where one of the groomsmen got “iced.”

Alex and I met up in March to create a little added surprise for Darin. His face was priceless and I’m so glad I got to be a part in creating that for him.

A First Look Without…

a First Look

Instead of a first look, Alex and Darin chose to share private vows in a quiet moment before the ceremony but without seeing each other. Darin sat on a bench facing away in a corner of the property while Alex approached behind him. No guests. No distractions. Just the two of them reading words that only they will ever fully understand.
It was intimate, emotional, and completely them. Capturing that moment from a respectful distance felt like photographing a sacred pause. One that set the tone for the rest of the day.

Portraits, Pup Cameos, and a Beach Break

portraits on the property. The photo list was thoughtfully curated with special shoutouts to both moms, a moment with Alex’s grandmother, and a must have photo with their officiant and his wife. We also carved out time for portraits with their dogs at the ned of the night.

Once the formal photos wrapped, we drove to a nearby beach for bridal party portraits and couple photos. The light was dreamy and soft, the wind was perfect for a little veil drama, and the whole vibe felt carefree. Alex and Darin moved through it all like pros, completely themselves, laughing and soaking up the moment.

Reception Magic and Meaningful Moments

Back at the reception, the energy was pure celebration. The couple made their grand entrance into the tented reception space set up beautifully by rentals from All in One Party Shop. Guests were already sipping drinks, playing lawn games, and enjoying the late afternoon light as dinner began.

Dinner from ch.events was served buffet style with plenty of laughter and cheers echoing through the tent. Speeches followed soon after. Heartfelt, hilarious, and full of love.

After cake cutting came the first dance, followed by parent dances that had more than a few guests wiping away tears. From there, the evening flowed into dancing, games, spontaneous hugs, and golden hour portraits that we snuck away for just before the sun dipped too low. Those frames were some of my favourites. Moody, sun kissed, and full of warmth.

Final Thoughts

Alex and Darin’s wedding was not about checking off a shot list or performing for tradition. It was about pausing in the right places, surrounding themselves with love, and staying fully present through it all. Every part of the day reflected who they are as a couple. Playful, grounded, and intentional.

If you are dreaming of a wedding day that feels easy, emotional, and truly reflective of your love story, take a note from Alex and Darin and make it your own. If you want to see Alex and Darin’s morning engagement session you can read more about it.
