Alex and Darin’s love story started nearly seven years ago when they met in their first year at the University of Calgary through mutual friends. What began as a chance encounter has since blossomed into a relationship built on shared experiences, laughter, and deep companionship. Their engagement story, like much of their relationship, is filled with humor and charm.
The Proposal at Kananaskis Country Golf Course
Darin planned a proposal that would take place during a round of golf, something meaningful to both of them. It was on the 4th tee box at Kananaskis Country Golf Course where he asked Alex if they could hit a ball together from the elevated tee onto the island green below. In her words, Alex found the idea a bit corny (usually reserved for golf outings with the girls!), but she agreed to do it. As she counted down and hit her ball, she didn’t hear Darin hit his. Turning around to ask why, she found Darin down on one knee, ring in hand. A moment that started with playful reluctance turned into a proposal Alex will never forget!
Balancing Life Together
What makes Alex and Darin’s relationship special is their balance. Alex describes herself as a “type B, unorganized, and busy” type of person, while Darin is the more even and level-headed one. Together, they complement and support each other perfectly, whether it’s on the golf course, exploring new places, or sharing quiet moments at home with their dog, Winnie.
Adventures Together
The couple shares a love for the outdoors and staying active. A standout experience in their relationship is the time they spent traveling across Western Canada while Alex competed in the women’s national motocross series, with Darin by her side as her mechanic. Their shared love for adventure also extends to surfing in Tofino—a place they try to visit whenever they make their way to Vancouver Island. Whether it’s golfing, riding dirt bikes, or enjoying a surf day in Tofino, their relationship thrives in the joy of shared experiences.
Capturing the Magic at Kye Bay and Seal Bay Nature Park
For their engagement session, Alex and Darin wanted their photos to feel natural, candid, and full of life. They were drawn to the beauty of Kye Bay for its peaceful beach atmosphere—perfect for the relaxed and easygoing vibe they were after. In addition to the beach, we headed to Seal Bay Nature Park, a stunning woodland escape with towering trees and quiet trails. The park provided the perfect backdrop for more intimate and cozy moments, with its rich, natural textures and beautiful forest scenery. It was a great complement to the open, airy beach shots, adding variety and depth to their photo collection. Whether on the sandy shores or among the tall trees, Alex and Darin’s easygoing love shone through in every shot.
